DO I REALLY NEED A DETOX?
WHAT IS DETOXIFICATION AND WHY SHOULD I CLEANSE?
Do I need a detox? What is detoxification and why should I cleanse? Toxins are referred to as anything that our body is unable to digest or get rid of. Toxins exist all around us… in the food you eat, the water you drink, the air you breathe. Toxins can also include biological waste from cells and internal processes in the body, and also waste and bacteria from foods we haven’t been able to digest properly.
Usually, our bodies eliminate these waste products efficiently, however sometimes toxins can build up and we start to see symptoms of them. Every day the liver tries to clean out the toxins you’re exposed. But it can only do so much work. Without help from the right nutrients, the livers job is even harder. So what does the liver do? It sequesters toxins that it can’t eliminate by storing them in fat (adipose) tissue.
Your body is well equipped to eliminate toxins, however there are ways in which you can enhance your body’s natural detoxification system to encourage the elimination of built up toxins.
Here are three steps to help get you started using the Being Co. Matcha and Nourish blend powders.
1. EAT YOUR GREENS!
When you’re green on the inside, you’re clean on the inside. The chlorophyll in green vegetables, acts like a deodoriser in your body. Chlorophyll binds to toxins and pulls them through your system for elimination.
Raw and organic is the rule when it comes to using vegetables or vegetable powders to help detox your body. Our Nourish Blend is made from 100% organic pure barley grass, wheat grass and alfalfa grass and can help boost your intake of greens.
Barley grass has been shown to strengthen the immune system, alkalise the body, aid in digestion and may help remove toxins. Wheatgrass contains several important antioxidants, including glutathione and vitamins C and E. Antioxidants are compounds that fight free radicals to prevent cell damage and reduce oxidative stress. Alfalfa grass also acts as a powerful antioxidant, preventing damage caused by free radicals.
2. SWAP YOUR BLACK COFFEE FOR MATCHA.
During a detox, caffeine is generally avoided. While matcha still contains caffeine, it is significantly less than coffee. The amino acids in matcha also allow for a ‘timed release’ meaning caffeine is delivered into the blood stream slowly.
Matcha green tea powder uses the whole green tea leaf, providing a large dose of amino acids, nutrients and antioxidants in particular, chlorophyll. Chlorophyll bonds with heavy metals such as lead, mercury and cadmium in the colon and sweeps them out of the body as it is digested.
Each cup of matcha is like a mini-cleanse! Antioxidant-rich matcha will not only assist your body to increase the production of antioxidant properties, it may also help boost your immune system and protect your body’s main detoxification organ, the liver.
3. GET MOVING.

3. GET MOVING.
One of the most important steps during a detox is to get moving and be physically active. The lymphatic system is like the waste or sewage system of the body. It is different to the vascular system though as there is no heart (pump) to move the waste.
The best exercise for the lymphatic system is rebounding. The impact of jumping, running and brisk walking pushes the lymphatic fluid, flushing it through the kidneys where the toxins are removed from the body.
When doing a detox, it is important to start off simple and slow. By incorporating these three simple steps, you will be sure that you are supporting your body’s own natural detoxification systems.
